Ed and Leah Bedell
have made their home in the active town of Salt Lake City, Utah, after relocating from Vermont a few years ago. They are both active skiers and hikers. Leah traveled to Greece for a hiking trip in 1998 with a group of girlfriends. In the fall of 2002 Leah brought Ed back to Europe on a custom trip for 16 of their friends hiking in Tuscany and the Cinque Terre.
has spent the last 20 years of her life traveling throughout Asia and Europe for work as well as taking part in hiking trips to South America and Europe. She recently returned from hiking in Patagonia and has plenty of personal travel plans ahead. Eunice has joined Kathy in the Basque Country, Nepal, Peru, the Baltics and Russia. Turkey and New Zealand are on the top of her list. She lives in NYC and Chicago with her new husband Barry!
Dave and Ann Burton
have hiked from Peru to the Camino De Santiago and the Yellow Mts. of China to Las Torres in Patagonia. They are always ahead of the traditional travelers and in search of new paths, historic churches and local music. They have gone through more than their fair share of hiking boots.
Stacie Sullivan and Marion Greene
were set up as roommates for a recent trip in Argentina and Chile. They became fast friends and enjoyed harvesting grapes in the Mendoza wine region and hiking to the Paine Towers in Patagonia. Stacie lives in NYC and travels as much as possible with recent adventures to Africa. Marion lives in Boulder, Colorado where she skis and hikes frequently in between taking her daughter to Denver Avalanche hockey games. Her favorite hikes are in Glacier National Park where she used to work. They plan to room together again on a Women's Hike in Slovenia.
Charlie and Gail Schaaf
have hiked throughout the US, Canada and Europe and are always looking for new destinations which offer an intimate view of traditional cultures and local trails (and regional wine!). Last year they enjoyed a Slovenia hike, and this year have plans to hike in Bulgaria. Each year they plan an extended family reunion trip; this year it takes place in Colorado, with lodging…in Wagons!
Over the past 8 years Lark has taken part in a variety of active vacations including in Nepal, India and Bhutan on women's cultural walking vacations: enjoying the wildflowers and Easter festivals in Sicily in the spring of 2003, and finally completing a women's Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu in the fall of 2004.

Ted Jonas and his daughter Amanda
enjoyed time together on a hiking trip in Italy last fall. Amanda's husband Matt, and Ted's wife Barbara, were both on the trip along with other friends. Amanda lived and worked in Rome after college and speaks Italian. Ted and Barb have hiked all over the world. When not hiking, Ted has taken up pottery.
Julie Paxton Nirvelli
Joined her stepmother Sheila Paxton on a women's Inca trail trek to Machu Picchu last fall. They are both very involved in the Boulder community and enjoy hiking, snowboarding, golf, and other activities. For Sheila's "big birthday" this year she is organizing a Barge trip in France for her family and friends followed by a 4 day hike in Provence. Julie lives with her husband and baby in Denver.
June and Ron Davis
June and Ron Davis, parents of two active young children, have a zest for life. June is 100% Sicilian and dreamt of going to Italy. They generally take short family vacations but in 2001 took time away from the family to travel to Italy on a walking tour. June will take part in this year's Bolder Boulder, 10km running race held on Memorial Day.
Mary Ann and Vicki Valhouli
are part of a community of Greeks from NH. This mother and daughter team hiked together in Slovenia with a women's tour in 2002, finishing with a stay in Venice. Mary Ann first took an international hiking trip in 1990, exploring the trails of Moravia and Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The group of women that gathered in Slovenia in 2002 has hosted reunions in NH, Vermont and recently in Florida.
Holly Miller and Sue Starner
Holly Miller and Sue Starner
first roomed together in Nepal and have become lifelong friends. Holly and her husband Bob of Burlington, VT, have traveled around the world on a variety of trips. Each year they plan a reunion with children and grandchildren. Recent trips have included a villa stay in Italy and a dude ranch in Wyoming. In 1997, Holly joined a group of friends from Vermont for a hiking trip in the Peloponnese in Greece and was hooked. She took her daughter and step-daughter for their 30th birthdays to Nepal on a women's hiking tour where she met Sue. They returned to Asia for another women's hike in Bhutan and India in 2000. Sue has hiked with Kathy Switzerland, Peru and the Czech Republic.
Holly, Sue and their travel companion from Nepal and Bhutan, Lark Schulze, along with Holly's Daughter, Erica, took part in a Women's Inca Trail Trek to Machu Picchu in the fall of 2003.
Will Paradise and Annika Powell Paradise
have lived and traveled throughout the world. Annika was in the Peace Corps in Thailand and speaks Thai. Will lived for an extended period in Nepal and helped Nepalese friends relocate to the US and find work in the natural foods industry. Prior to getting married, they trekked around Mt Kailas, the Holy Mt. in Tibet. Their most recent adventure together was completing the Paine Circuit in Patagonia on an organized hike. Will is an avid trail runner and tennis player, while Annika enjoys telemark skiing, and Yoga. They now live in Boulder, Colorado with their two children.
Mother and daughter, Lynn and Cindy MacFarlane celebrated Lynn's 40th with a trek to Machu Picchu. Lynn left her family and young children in NH and spent this special celebration with her mother.
husband Brian encouraged her to leave behind 4 young children and join her girlfriends on a hiking trip in Slovenia in 2002. Being "taken care of", laughing, being outdoors all day, and laughing more…encouraged Brooks to set aside time for herself in her busy family life.
lives in Burlington, Vermont. She is an avid hiker, skier and traveler. She first traveled to Greece on a hiking trip in 1997, returning to Sicily in 2000 and then to Slovenia in 2002.
